I have many bowls. More will be added as I have time to get pictures and descriptions prepared.
These natural edge bowls are turned from a piece of a tree with the bark still
on it. The odd shape comes from the direction they are mounted when turning, and
although they look like they are not round, they start out round and will distort
a bit when they dry, most are turned with wet, or green wood. I normally finish
these bowls with a Danish Oil or an oil I mix with Linseed and Tung Oils. They
are nor for food, though they are safe for candies, etc. and should not be put into
a dishwasher. Cleaning with a damp cloth is sufficient, and a light coating of
wax or a furniture type oil is all that is ever needed to keep them in tip-top shape.
They are sure to make a hit elicit comments.
These three natural edge bowls were turned from Black Cherry
They range in size from 5-1/2" to 4" across the top and 4-1/4 to 3-1/4" across
the 'waist'.
Cherry has a distinctive dark color in the heartwood and a rather light
sapwood but these bowls will darken with age and exposure to ultraviolet light.
Also they will distort with changes in humidity and the seasons and may show
some cracking in the sapwood. These are not flaws, but a characteristic of all wood
bowls, and especially those turned with the natural edge intact.
I've finished these with
an oil finish, and should be hand washed. Do not put it in the Dishwasher or
microwave!
